2009-06-01: Dr. Dana Buske Speaks to SWANA

Tech Environmental's Dr. Dana Buske gave a presentation on "Demystifying Landfill Gas Capture Efficiency" at an annual meeting of the Solid Waste Association of North America. Dr. Buske addressed an audience at SWANA's 14th Annual Landfill Symposium in Savannah, GA on Monday, June 1st.

This presentation describes the findings of a paper prepared by Dr. Buske and her colleagues as a third-party analysis of academic literature and industry best-practices. The presentation gives an overview of the research that went into the paper, and the new directions that her research took after uncovering some surprising facts.

Dr. Buske recently gave a presentation on unique landfill factors in Bolton Landing, NY.

The presentation reviews unique landfill factors that can have an impact on fugitive emissions of landfill gas; this topic was recently covered at greater length in a series of presentations at the New York Solid Waste Federation conference by Dr. Buske and three other presenters. Ultimately, the paper served as a jumping-off point for this and other presentations on the topics of capture efficiency, unique landfill factors, and the key question that is often overlooked when capture efficiency is the primary focus: how much is actually escaping from the landfill's surface?

Dr. Buske's paper will be published in an upcoming issue of MSW Management magazine, and the slides from her presentation are available for review (click here).
